Tysons Workforce and Affordable Housing
Join as we host Abdi Hamud from Fairfax County's Affordable and Workforce Dwelling Units Program at this month's meeting. Abdi will facilitate a roundtable discussion about affordable housing in Fairfax County and more specifically in Tysons. We will discuss challenges facing the workforce in the area, and what plans and programs are in place to address these challenges. This is an opportunity to listen and to share thoughts and ideas..
About Mr. Hamud:
Abdi Hamud has managed Fairfax County's Affordable and Workforce Dwelling Unit Programs (ADU and WDU Programs) for the Department of Housing and Community Development since 2015 and served as the Affordable and Workforce Housing Program Administrator since 2017. Mr. Hamud oversees the administration of Fairfax County's affordable and workforce housing policies from the land use process through delivery of units. The ADU and WDU Programs utilize land use policies to create affordable and workforce housing opportunities to income eligible working households. The Fairfax County policies expect a percentage of new residential developments to provide affordable and/or workforce housing units. In particular, the WDU Program provides units in high-density areas in close proximity to transit stations and employment opportunities. Prior to his current role, Mr. Hamud managed the First-time Homebuyers Program (FTHB Program). The FTHB Program provides affordable homeownership opportunities to low and moderate income households. Mr. Hamud led a team responsible for community outreach, homeownership education, facilitating sales and enforcing compliance requirements.
Mr. Hamud has a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a master's degree in Public Administration from the Center for Public Administration and Policy at Virginia Tech University. He also graduated from the Leadership Fairfax Institute in 2017.
