Join the Junior League of Northern Virginia for a casual conversation with Astronaut Nicole Aunapu Mann on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. ET. Lt. Col. Nicole Aunapu Mann was selected by NASA in June 2013. Mann earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 1999. And she earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a specialty in Fluid Mechanics from Stanford University in 2001.
She is currently training for the crew flight test of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, the first experimental flight test for that spacecraft. Mann and her crewmates are working closely with Boeing to develop their new spacecraft systems, which will provide roundtrip crew transportation services to the International Space Station and, along with SpaceX’s CrewDragon, return the ability to launch humans into space from United States soil. Mann, who is a California native, served as a test pilot in the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet and deployed twice aboard aircraft carriers in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
